10:04 PM Get your Dog to Wear Shoes |
Shoes protect your pet’s paws from extreme weather, toxic chemicals, and sharp objects. However, your puppy needs time and lots of positive reinforcement to be comfortable wearing those booties. When choosing shoes for your puppy, look for the best pair that fits him well. Shoes that are too snug or have too much room won’t dwell well with your canine friend. To get the exact measurements of his paw, use a pencil to mark the length and width of a paw. The length is obtained by marking the position of his heel, and placing another mark at the tip of his longest nail. Make sure to round up to the next shoe size, if your puppy’s paw measurements are in between sizes. When putting the new shoes on your puppy’s paws, start by pulling down the zipper or loosening the straps so there’s plenty of room for the foot to slide in. To determine whether it’s a perfect fit, you should be able to feel your pup’s toes on the front of the shoe. If your puppy has dew claws, press them inward to tuck them into the booties. Each time a shoe is well-fitted, give your puppy a tasty treat, and move on to the next one, until all four shoes have been securely fastened. If you are having problems with your puppy's behavior, talk with a North Kingstown vet. Find out more from this website. |
