10:32 AM Feeding Your Rabbit |
Your rabbit needs a variety of foods to keep healthy and happy. Start with a high-quality rabbit pellet. Purchase food from a reputable pet supply store with high turnover to ensure freshness. Give your rabbit fresh, leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, spinach or kale. Add other crunchy vegetables such as squash or carrots for added nutrition. Small pieces of fruit such as apple slices or strawberries several times a week make a nice treat. Your rabbit will need lots of hay. Hay adds roughage to help your rabbit’s digestive tract work properly and all that nibbling keeps his teeth trim. Alfalfa hay has too much protein for adult rabbits so timothy hay makes a better choice. You can get small bales of dried hay from a pet store or fresh hay from a feed store or online. Ensure your rabbit has access to fresh, clean water at all times. For additional information contact your Aurora, CO veterinary clinic. Learn more here. |
