Accidents can be frustrating, which may lead you to punish your dog. This is a very bad idea. Negative reinforcement isn’t very effective, especially if you’re trying to punish your dog for something he did in the past. For example, if you rub your dog’s nose in his potty accident, he won’t associate it with going potty inside. Instead, he’ll associate it with you getting home!

Instead, you have to figure out why your dog behaved the way he did and fix it so it doesn’t happen again. If he had a potty accident, maybe you should consider installing a doggy door.
