12:03 PM Can Sussex Rabbits Eat Lettuce? |
Contrary to popular belief, Sussex rabbits along with other rabbit breads can actually have cabbage and lettuce as part of their diet. In the past, it was believed that lettuce or cabbage would cause diarrhea or bloat in rabbits; however, your vet can tell you this is not entirely true. Many rabbit owners have been feeding their rabbits lettuce and cabbage as a treat or in addition to their regular diet for years. In most cases, the rabbit does just fine digesting the greens and actually enjoys them as a treat. Some rabbits; however, may have a reaction and develop bloat or diarrhea. These cases are rare. If you’ve never given your rabbit cabbage or lettuce, consult your veterinarian before feeding it out. You should start with a small amount to make sure your rabbit doesn’t have a reaction. Once it’s deemed safe by your vet care Livonia, MI your rabbit can feed on lettuce and cabbage in moderation. |
