Bird-Proofing Your Home

Pet birds live most of their lives in their cages. However, they need time outside the cage daily for socialization and exercise. Flying is the best exercise so you need to protect your bird from escape and household hazards. Consider confining flight to a room where you can guarantee your bird cannot get outside. Check that all windows and doors are securely closed. Turn off ceiling fans. Remove other pets that may jump up and grab your bird or pounce on it. Examine the room for peeling paints, electrical wires, air fresheners, candles and other items that may injure your bird if it chews on them. Pay special attention to plants since they may look appetizing and be toxic to your bird. Mirrors can be confusing and your bird may fly into them. Keep noise and human movement to a minimum so you don’t frighten your bird. For more information, contact your Moorpark, CA vet. Click here to know more details. http://americanvethospital.com/.
