Did you know that the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) can affect all breeds of cats including the Turkish Van cat? If your cat has been diagnosed with FeLV ask your vet about treatment options, medications available, and ways to help your Turkish Van remain comfortable. You will also need to know how to prevent secondary infections that could develop as a result of your cat’s compromised immune system. Your vet can also help you understand how to care for your cat at home and to ensure that other household cats do not become infected. FeLV is contagious to cats only and is spread through saliva, blood, and body fluids. If you have a multi-cat home you will need to keep your infected cat away from your other cats at all times. They will need separate food and water bowls and separate litter boxes.  Take your cat to your vet Gourock, Scotland every six months for a wellness check up.

Did you know that all breeds of cat including the Turkish Van are susceptible to the FeLV virus? Your vet may have told you that FeLV stands for Feline Leukemia Virus. This particular virus is the second largest cause of death among cats. FeLV is fatal disease that killed approximately 85% of the cats that were infected over a three year time period. The virus can cause anemia or lymphoma in cats as well as suppress their immune system making them highly susceptible to deadly infections. In fact, research has found that 70% of cats that came in contact with FeLV were able to either resist the infection or overcome it on their own. FeLV affects cats only. It is transmitted from cat to cat through saliva, blood and possibly urine or feces. Talk to your vet Gourock, Scotland for further details.
