Did you know that the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) can affect all breeds of cats including the Turkish Van cat? If your cat has been diagnosed with FeLV ask your vet about treatment options, medications available, and ways to help your Turkish Van remain comfortable. You will also need to know how to prevent secondary infections that could develop as a result of your cat’s compromised immune system. Your vet can also help you understand how to care for your cat at home and to ensure that other household cats do not become infected. FeLV is contagious to cats only and is spread through saliva, blood, and body fluids. If you have a multi-cat home you will need to keep your infected cat away from your other cats at all times. They will need separate food and water bowls and separate litter boxes.  Take your cat to your vet Gourock, Scotland every six months for a wellness check up.
