Guinea pigs need regular hair brushing to keep their coats in good condition. Most won’t mind having a regular grooming regimen especially if they have been exposed to the procedure while still very young. A fairly stiff hairbrush and a small metal comb are grooming essentials for cavies.

Your grooming sessions are also opportunities to check your pet for lumps, bumps, skin sores, and even lice. Grooming schedule usually depends on the length of your pet’s hair, and whether it is shedding.

Long-haired guinea pigs need a daily brushing to keep out any mats. If you have no time for this daily regimen, you can choose to have the hair trimmed.

Short-haired guinea pigs will only need brushing every few days. However, if it is shedding, you may need to brush its coat every other day.

There are many factors that have been found to cause depression in pet birds including boredom, a change in the position or location of its cage, or even the loss of a favorite toy.

Depressed birds usually have fluffed-up feathers, poor appetite, and a change in droppings; they may also engage in feather plucking and are prone to irritable behavior.
