7:23 AM Your Dog and Skunks |
Skunks can be found in populated areas and if your dog nudges one out of curiosity, he may end up getting sprayed. You will need to clean up your dog and get rid of that awful odor. If your dog has been sprayed, keep him outside so he doesn’t contaminate your home with the stink. Check your dog’s eyes since skunk scent can be quite irritating. Rinse your dog’s eyes as needed. If they become too watery or red, seek prompt medical attention. If you have a commercially available skunk cleanser handy, you can wash your dog with it. Otherwise, mix a quart of peroxide with a bit of dish soap and a ¼ cup of baking soda. Work this mixture into your dog’s fur and quickly rinse with fresh water so the solution doesn’t bleach your dog. Follow up with a regular dog shampoo bath.
