9:58 AM Your Cat’s Kneading |
As a cat owner, you have experienced both the pain and pleasure of your cat kneading your lap with her claws. As a kitten, your cat kneaded her mother to stimulate milk. Thus when she kneads you, your cat is transferring this nurturing relationship to you. She also will mark you as her own using scent from glands in her feet. Never punish or yell at your cat for kneading since it is all about love. However, trim your cat’s claws often too dull her weapons that can hurt while she is kneading you. Don’t be shy about slipping a lap blanket or small pillow between your cat’s claws and your lap to lessen the pain. Enjoy the ubiquitous purring and your cat’s love. And don’t forget to take time to pet and cuddle your cat while she is kneading you. For more information, contact your Aurora, CO veterinarian. |
