What Causes Gingivitis in Chow Chows ?

Do you own a Chow Chow or other canine breed? If so, talk with your vet to learn about gingivitis and the way it can show up in your pup’s mouth. For instance, bad breath can signal your Chow Chow needs his teeth cleaned. Bad breath can also signal that your Chow Chow may have Gingivitis or periodontal disease. In general, gingivitis is caused by food or plaque build-up. In people, gingivitis is usually a sign of bad oral hygiene. This is why many vets suggest that you brush your Chow Chow’s teeth regularly or have them professionally cleaned. Plaque and food build-up; however, can also occur for more reasons than just lack of brushing. For instance, old age, crooked teeth, crowded teeth, soft food, breathing through the mouth, bad chewing habits, uremia and diabetes, and autoimmune diseases can also trigger plaque build-up and lead to gingivitis.
