The Chartreux cat is a rare and unique breed of cat. Originating in Persia, it is said the cat came with the knights to French monasteries after the Crusades. Documents dating the 16^th century mention the breed. Some of the cats moved on with the knights while others stayed on at the monasteries earning their name Chartreux.
