Symptoms of FeLV in Burmilla Cats

FeLV stands for the Feline Leukemia Virus, which is the second leading cause of death in cats. The virus attacks the cat’s immune system making him susceptible to virtually every disease out there. You can protect your cat by keeping him away from other cats. If you have a multiple cat home, make sure your FeLV positive cat is eating and drinking out of his own bowl and has his own litter box. Signs of FeLV may include pale gums, yellow coloring of the mouth and whites of the eyes, enlarged lymph nodes, bladder infections, skin infections, upper respiratory infections, weight loss, loss of appetite, poor coat condition, weakness, lethargy, fever, diarrhea, difficulty breathing and sterility in female cats. If your cat is having any of these symptoms, please call your most reputed Rochester NY vets immediately to schedule an appointment. The FeLV virus is not contagious to dogs or people.
