3:15 PM Stroke In Cats |
Did you know that cats can suffer from stroke? It’s actually the same problem that can also occur in humans. Feline stroke is actually much more common than was previously thought of. Fortunately, stroke in cats are pretty much less severe and general recovery take place within a few weeks.
Stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain suddenly decreases or stops altogether. Just like in people, there are 2 categories for stroke cases in cats. The first one is hemorrhagic stroke which is characterized by bleeding in the brain. The second is ischemic stroke in which there is sudden loss of blood supply to the brain.
The loss or lack of blood supply to the brain can have a negative impact on the oxygen supply to the brain. Oxygen is vital to life. Its absence or lack thereof can eventually interfere in normal brain function. Permanent brain damage may occur if the deficit goes on long enough without any medical intervention.
