While most lizards may not be expensive, you will have to shell out money for their basic essentials and equipment. You should also have an idea how large your pet lizard will be as an adult; cute hatchling iguanas can grow to 5-6 foot adult iguanas.

Pet reptiles have also been demonstrated to be important carriers of Salmonella bacteria, which can be transmitted to humans.

When choosing your pet, get a captive bred lizard from a reputable breeder. Lizards that are caught in the wild and sold as pets often have a heavy parasite load, and are prone to disease. They are also more stressed and are difficult to tame.
