Many species of snakes are known to make ideal pets for first-time reptile owners. Starter species are generally easy to care for and are fairly easy to tame. Their nutritional needs are also easy to meet; although they don’t need to eat often, you must be prepared to feed your pet snake with whole prey such as mice and rats.

Some popular starter snakes include Corn Snakes, King and Milk Snakes, and Ball Pythons. It is recommended to buy only from captive bred snakes to minimize potential feeding problems.

Most species of venomous snakes and large constrictors won’t make suitable pets for newbie reptile owners. With many pet owners choosing to keep exotic pets, grooming services for these pets are now being offered. Small pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, and ferrets benefit from professional grooming services. One common grooming regimen that these pets share is regular nail trimming. Some will also need some coat thinning occasionally.

Long-haired guinea pigs can benefit from regular dematting, coat thinning, ear cleaning, and occasional baths.
