8:26 PM Obesity and Your Cat |
Your cat’s obesity can lead to mobility issues and put her at a higher risk for diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers. Thus it is healthier to keep your cat slim. Your cat is most likely fat because of a combination of too much food and not enough exercise. Determine the right amount of calories for your cat’s daily diet and work to stay within that limit. Include any calories from treats in this count too. Consider using a weight control formula food so your cat feels full while losing weight. Gradually increase the amount of exercise your cat gets daily. Use toys to encourage movement. Toys also prevent injuries from an overly excited cat. A ball, a laser pointer or a fishing rod toy will entice your cat to chase, pounce and jump. For more information, contact your North Phoenix, AZ veterinarian. |
