Kittens Have Different Nutritional Needs From Adult Cats

Kittens go through a phase of rapid growth spurts during the first few weeks of life. In order to support the needs of the body during this time of explosive growth and high activity levels, kittens need about three times the energy needs of adult cats.

Their high caloric requirement makes it difficult for growing kittens to get enough calories in a single meal. In order to meet their needs for calories, kittens should be fed at least 3-4 meals a day.

Kittens have higher needs for protein and minerals than adult cats; however their requirement for fat, essential fatty acids and most vitamins are similar with adult cats. It is for these reasons that kittens should be fed premium quality kitten food until they are one year of age.
