Injury to Finch’s Eye

If you own a pet bird then you may be aware that eye injuries can be a common occurrence in birds due to their flying and other activity in and out of their cages. If you’re concerned that your Finch has injured his eye, contact your vet right away. Signs of an eye injury can include a red, swollen eyelid, partial or total closure of the eyelid, squinting, rubbing of the eye and side of the face with the wing, discoloration of the eye surface, inflammation of the third eyelid, etc. These symptoms could be from a variety of causes, but may generally be from trash, debris or other irritants entering your Finch’s eye. Your veterinarian Orangevale, CA may have you check your Finch’s eye for debris. If you find something, your vet may then instruct you to flush your bird’s eye with water or a preservative-free saline.
