Feeding a Senior Rabbit

Do you own a senior rabbit? Depending on breed, rabbits tend to live around five to eight years. Rabbits in the wild only live around three years. Around the age of five or so, your rabbit is most likely considered a senior and may start to show changes in behavior, mobility, and eating habits. Your rabbit may be more lethargic and sleep longer during the day. He also may need to start receiving his food in smaller pieces. If he is on a grain, then you will need to switch him to a soft grain pellet so that he can chew it. A senior rabbit’s teeth tend to grow weak and may even fall out. You can soak your rabbit’s grain in hot water and allow it to turn into a soupy mash in an effort to help your rabbit eat better. Make sure your rabbit is drinking plenty of water.
