8:10 AM Exercising Senior Dogs |
Senior dogs can benefit from having a regular fitness regimen, although this time around, the routine should be less strenuous. Dogs slow down with age and their aching joints make it difficult for them to move around like they used to. As they grow old, senior dogs become more anxious and nervous than when they were younger. This is often associated by their gradual loss of hearing and/or poor eyesight. With this in mind, it is best to take your senior pooch to places or routes which are familiar to him so he will feel more comfortable. Considering your senior dog’s lower energy levels, a short walk will already be enough physical activity for the day. The fresh air will do him good, and even if his senses are not as sharp, the great outdoors will still be a source of physical and mental stimulation. Talk with your Lafayette, LA vet to make sure that your pet is receiving the right amount of exercise that he needs to stay in tip-top shape. Check out more information here. |
