Does your kitty know where to scratch legally?

Scratching comes naturally for cats. So if you have are sharing your home with a cat or two, you should take steps to protect your carpet and furniture from your pet’s sharp claws, and provide ‘legal’ surfaces to scratch on.

While some cats don’t need to be introduced to a new cat tree or scratch pad, some need some encouragement to use them. Make sure your cat scratches appropriate surfaces by:

  • Choosing a sisal-covered post which is sturdy enough to prevent it from toppling over. Get a post that is at least 3 feet in height to allow your kitty to stretch its body.
  • If your cat still returns to scratching on your furniture or carpet, place the post next to his favorite scratching spot; rubbing some catnip on the post will surely catch your furball’s attention.
  • Place the scratching post in places where your kitty likes to spend a good part of the day. Some like having one near their bed so they can stretch their bodies upon waking up.

Bring your cat to a Warminster, PA veterinarian for regular checkups. Click here for more info.
