5:28 AM Does My Cat Need Snow Shoes |
If you live in an area prone to snow during the winter months then you may be wondering if your cat will need some type of snow shoe or protection for her paws. In general, most cats do not need snow shoes or foot protection. Cats have a layer of protection on the pads of their paws already. However, there are some cats that could benefit from shoes. For instance, cats with hairy paws may have a tendency to collect ice and snow balls on their feet. Shoes can prevent this; however, shoes should only be used for indoor cats that spend short time outdoors. Long-term outdoor cats should be brought in routinely to have their feet cleaned to prevent ice and snow build up as well as to wash away toxic salt or ice melt used to treat icy surfaces.
