Do I Need to Trim my Leopard Gecko's nails?

If you have a Leopard Gecko for a pet then you may find that overtime, his nails become long, pointed and sharp. Geckos that don’t live in the wild aren’t given the opportunity to naturally file down their nails over rough surfaces and terrain. Pet Leopard Geckos will need to have their nails trimmed routinely. If you’re going to trim the nails yourself then you should keep a couple of things in mind. First, the claws are in two parts. There is a thicker part extending from the toe and then a thin, razor sharp point that comes off the end of the main claw. You can use nail clippers when your lizard is young. However, you will need specifically designed lizard clippers for trimming when he’s older. If you’re not sure about trimming the nails on your own, give your veterinarian St. Cloud, MN a call and ask for assistance.

People, do not listen to this. This is all wrong. While trimming a geckos nails is beneficial to us, it is very stressful to them. They use their nails for shedding, climbing, and digging. Never ever trim your leopard gecko’s nails.

That gecko is so skinny. He's emaciated looking poor guy.
