Diagnosing Swollen Eyes in Red-Eared Sliders

Have you noticed if your Red-Eared Slider is constantly scratching or rubbing at his eyes? If he his check his eyes to see if they appear to be watery, weepy, or puffy. In addition, check to see if he’s having trouble opening his eyes. If so, contact your vet to schedule an eye exam as soon as possible. Eye infections are a common occurrence in Red-Eared Sliders and require immediate treatment to prevent the spread of infection. In order to diagnose your Red-Eared Slider’s condition, your vet will need to exam the eye. Your vet will most likely exam the glands found in and around your Red-Eared Slider’s eye. If there’s swelling the “Harderian” gland this could indicate a vitamin deficiency possibly due to poor diet. After a thorough examination, your vet should be able to make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment. If you have questions after your visit, contact your veterinary clinic Louisville, CO.
