Childproofing your Pet Dog

Yes, pet dogs should also be child-proofed. This will go a long way in preventing display of aggressive behavior against kids. Here are some tips to help prevent dog bites and other aggressive behavior:

Proper socialization

Proper and adequate socialization are essential to puppies. And it should take place when they are between 8-16 weeks of age. Socialization exposes puppies to different kinds of people and situations so they will learn to adjust and be more comfortable in dealing with any situation they find themselves in later in life.

Obedience training

Obedience training is an important factor in shaping a dog’s behavior. A well-behaved pet will have lesser chances of displaying aggressive behavior especially when he is trained how to behave around kids.

Proper handling

Dogs are not the only ones that should be trained in proper behavior when around kids. Children should also be taught how to handle pets properly. Yes, there are some breeds of dogs that tolerate the attention of overly enthusiastic kids—throwing their arms around the dog’s neck or tugging on his tail— but there are also those that won’t be too happy with these antics behavior.

Don’t hesitate to ask your vet Brampton, ON if you have any problems and/or concerns about your pet’s behavior.
