Can Violet Chinchillas Overheat?

Any animal that is kept in prolonged heat for a long period of time can overheat even your Violet chinchilla. Long exposures to hot temperatures can cause dehydration and heatstroke. You can avoid this by keeping your chinchilla in a cool part of the home. Chinchillas are from generally dry and arid parts of the world. They are used to average temperatures of sixty-five degrees Fahrenheit and hardly any humidity. If you can, keep your chinchilla in a similar environment. If not, find ways to keep your chinchilla cool by placing his cage in a cool and shady part of the home. Keep his cage clean so he can burrow in the bedding. Give him free range time in the evening when temperatures have cooled off. If your chinchilla is breathing heavy, acting lethargic and not eating or drinking, give your veterinarian Oshawa, ON a call right away.
