2:03 PM Can my Grey Tabby Cat get FELV ? |
All cats are susceptible to the FeLV or Feline Leukemia Virus. In fact, it is the second largest cause of death among cats. If you are thinking about adopting or purchasing a cat, have him tested for FeLV first. If you already own a cat, ask your vet if the cat’s been tested. FeLV can cause anemia or lymphoma as well as suppress the immune system making cats highly susceptible to infections. Cats with FeLV shouldn’t be around other cats because the virus has weakened its immune system making him much more susceptible to even the smallest of viruses. If you have other cats in your home make sure they have separate food and water bowls. The actual FeLV virus is not contagious to dogs or humans. You can help protect your cat against the virus by having him vaccinated. For more information, talk with your most recommended vet Colorado Springs CO. |
