Basic Dog Obedience Training

Obedience training is where you teach your dog specific actions you want him to do after you give him a command or a hand signal. Behavior training is where you teach your dog what not to do and usually doesn’t involve commands. Start obedience training by picking the commands you want you dog to follow. Sit, stay, come and down are usually a good start. Work on only one command at a time and don’t move on to another one until your dog reliably performs the previous one. Use a food treat to lure your dog into a close approximation of the action you desire. Introduce the command word and give your dog the treat. Practice this and require more precision in performing the action. Delay giving your dog the treat a bit and eventually eliminate the treats so he follows the command alone.
