Adjusting your Persian's Insulin Dosage

If your Persian or other breed of cat has been diagnosed with diabetes then your vet may have prescribed insulin as part of the treatment process. Insulin can come in liquid form for injections or oral pill form for swallowing. Your cat may go through a period of adjustment when first starting her insulin medication. Always check with your vet before changing your cat’s insulin dose. It’s common for some cats to be labeled “insulin resistant” when blood sugar levels reveal a larger dose of insulin is needed. Sometimes a cat’s body needs a stronger dose while other times an illness or infection could be causing a change in sugar levels. Your vet can run tests to find the cause. If your cat appears to be disoriented, confused, weak, restless, has an appetite change or even shivering then she may be suffering from too much insulin. Call your vet Imperial Beach, CA right away.
