Pets living under the same roof often develop a complex pecking order. For some cats, an existing social hierarchy can help them forge strong bonds with each other, but for some, it can pave the way for a very bitter rivalry. Although some cats tolerate each other’s presence, they cease to be friends when there is food involved. This may also apply to certain areas around the house including the window perch and the top of the cat tree.

Competing over their food can easily become nasty fights during mealtimes. In order to prevent animosity between cats in a multi-cat household, the matter should be addressed while they are still very young.

In some instances, aggressive behavior during meals occurs among mature cats. The best way to deal with the problem is to feed them in separate areas of the house, but always at the same time.
