The Claws of a Conure

Did you know that the claws of a Conure are unique to the parrot family? Unlike other bird species that have three toes, most Conures have two clawed feet with four toes on each foot. Two of the toes point forward and two of the toes point backward. The grip of the toes in the front along with the grip of the toes in the back gives the Conures balance and support. When holding your bird, make sure you use an outstretched finger or hand that is held close to your body. Your Conure will latch onto you like he does his perch. Conures also share another trait with fellow parrots and that is their curved beak or bill. The uniquely curved bill enables the Conure to climb trees and large shrubs. It also helps with eating different kinds of food. For more details, talk with your veterinarian Lakewood Ranch, FL.
