NSAIDS refer to non-steroid anti-inflammatory medications that are primarily prescribed for pain relief in veterinary medicine. It is the most common medication used for pain relief in osteoarthritis and post-operative pain. While NSAIDS are the most frequently prescribed medication in dogs, the possibility of certain side effects still exists. Some side effects are mild and will resolve on their own in due time, but other side effects are serious and may be even life-threatening. The most common side effects of NSAIDS in dogs include vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, lethargy, change in drinking and urination habits, and black tarry stools. The serious side effects may include kidney failure, ulcer along the gastrointestinal tract, and perforation of the gastrointestinal tract, liver toxicity, kidney toxicity, and death.
