It can be very comforting to curl up with your cat on the couch in the evening, but there’s nothing worse than a needy cat when you’re trying to get some work done on the computer! Here is an easy way to keep your cat away while you’re working.

Distracting your cat is all about providing him with something that he can’t resist. Try setting up a cat tree next to your desk. It’s even better if you are able to situate the cat tree next to your desk and a window at the same time.

Don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a new cat tree? Place an empty cardboard box on your desk! Your cat will surely want to curl up in the box instead of sprawling out on your keyboard!

Owning any animal will cost a little bit of money, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look for ways to save! Here are a few ways to keep the cost of your cat’s litter box down.

Because the litter has to be replaced so often, you should look for a brand that offers high-quality at a reasonable price. Don’t be afraid to try out a few different litters. If you aren’t concerned with how much scooping or dumping you might have to do, you can even try shredded paper to save the most money.

The price of the box you choose can vary widely too. Although some boxes are awfully fancy, they are all just a toilet for your cat. Don’t be afraid to purchase a basic box. It’ll help you save money.

Your cat likes to sleep a lot, and naturally takes naps throughout your home day after day. These sleeping habits aren’t the product of a lazy personality, but rather a biological need for lots of rest. Wild cats would fill up on high protein meals, and then nap so they can digest everything properly. They also had a lot more dangers than current domesticated cats do, leaving them with times where they would have to flee from predators without any notice. It was important that they were well rested, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to outrun threats that crossed their path. Extra energy was needed to chase down their next meal as well. While your pet’s life may be a bit different than her wild ancestors, she is still acting on the same instincts. Your local Wake Forest, NC veterinarian can offer additional suggestions.

Your cat loves to munch on her favorite food, but she doesn’t necessarily realize that it can be good for her as well. With so many quality cat foods on the market, there is no shortage of healthy options. Her diet should consist of a natural food packed with whole food ingredients. You should be able to recognize the items in the ingredient list. This means that most artificial ingredients and fillers should be absent. These can dilute the good items in your pet’s food, and will offer little in the way of nutritional value. Foods that are nearly complete and offer most of what your pet needs can be supplemented with high quality treats rich in the nutrients her food is lacking. You can also take your pet’s taste preferences into account and offer something she will be excited to eat. For more information, please contact your local Wake Forest, NC veterinarian.

Your guinea pig depends entirely on you for a proper diet. Feed your guinea pig a nutritionally complete guinea pig pellet daily. Provide access to timothy hay at all times to help with digestion and to keep your pig’s teeth trim. Carrots are good for your pig’s teeth too. Guinea pigs need fresh vegetables once a day. Offer high-nutrition leafy greens such as kale, spinach or romaine lettuce. An occasional slice of apple or zucchini makes a nice treat but don’t give treats too often or your guinea pig could get diarrhea. Guinea pig’s bodies cannot manufacture vitamin C so you will need to supplement your pig’s diet with a slice of orange, papaya or strawberries on occasion. Remove all uneaten fruits and vegetables about an hour after you offer them to your pig to keep the cage clean. For more information, contact your Lakewood Ranch, FL vet.

Choose a glass tank for your iguana to retain heat. Make sure the lid to your iguana’s habitat is secure to keep your iguana from escaping and keep other animals from injuring your iguana. Line the habitat with newspaper, indoor/outdoor carpeting or commercially available products specifically for iguanas. Do not use wood shavings, gravel or soil. Provide your iguana with branches to climb on, boxes to climb on and rocks to keep nails trim. Plants can add ambience but know that iguanas will eat them too. Be sure all plants in the habitat are non-toxic. Add enough fun things to your iguana’s habitat to keep it busy but not so many that it becomes difficult to move around freely. Add white and UV lighting to the habitat to keep your iguana warm and allow it to produce vitamin D. Learn more from your Myakka, FL veterinary clinic.

We all love snacks and your dog does too. Treats are good to reward your dog for good behavior especially during obedience training. Treats can help with good dental hygiene. And sometimes we want to just be nice to our furry friends. However, it’s important to choose treats that are nutritious and don’t cause our dogs any harm. Too many treats can make your dog obese. This can lead to mobility issues and make your dog more susceptible to disease. Consider the amount of calories in any treats you give your dog and deduct this from your dog’s total daily calorie count. Choose treats that are manufactured specifically for dogs to ensure safety. Avoid table scraps since many common ingredients in human food can be dangerous to your dog. Don’t reward your dog while he is begging since this encourages bad behavior.
