9:25 PM Why Don't Some Hamsters Like to Be Held? |
Hamsters can make great pets. They especially make good pets for children. However, not all hamsters are created equal. Some hamsters may not like to be held. Hamsters that don’t like to be held have not been properly socialized. This is often the case in large pet stores where the employees don’t regularly interact with all of the critters in their care. If you’re bringing home a hamster for a small child, it’s best to choose a well-socialized hamster that doesn’t mind being held. You can socialize a hamster yourself, but you’ll have to take things slow. Start by spending time near the cage and offering your furry friend treats. Eventually, you can try picking him up, but you may want to wear protective gloves until he gets used to your touch. To make sure the behavior doesn’t have a medical cause, schedule an appointment with your veterinary clinic Flower Mound, TX. |
