2:57 AM Toxic Food for Hamsters: Almonds and Acidic Fruits |
If you own a hamster then you probably have heard that hamsters enjoy a variety of different foods in addition to their regular hamster food pellets. Remember to always check with your vet Warminster, PA before giving your hamster any type of people food such as fruits, vegetables, or nuts. In general, hamsters can have small amounts of fruits and vegetables or even nuts in moderation. But there are some specifics that should be avoided. For instance, hamsters should not be given almonds. The nut itself is not toxic; however, the skin around the almond may contain “naturally occurring” acids that are harmful if eaten. If your hamster has been given almonds and you notice that he is having trouble digesting them or he’s developed diarrhea, contact your vet right away. In addition to the acids in almonds, it is also recommended that you not give your hamster any type of acidic fruit. Click here to know more. |
