How To Care For A Nursing Cat

A mother cat gives birth to her litter of kittens after being pregnant for about 2 months. These are delicate times of her life and she will benefit from all the care and attention that her humans can shower her with. A mother cat and her litter of kittens should be placed in a room so they won’t be disturbed by humans and other pets in the household. A mother cat may allow familiar people to get near and/or handle her kittens, some are extremely protective of their litter and can display aggressive behavior when somebody goes near them. Closely observing your pet’s behavior can give you an idea whether she will tolerate you or any family member to come near and handler her litter. Since kittens benefit from early exposure and interaction with humans, make sure you proceed carefully without upsetting the mother cat and causing her to behave aggressively. Talk to your Essex-Middle River, MD veterinarian if you have any questions and/or concerns about your pet’s health or behavior or contact us for more information.
