Green iguanas thrive in a tropical setting where conditions are hot and humid. If your home has air-conditioning, it is best to keep your pet iguana in an enclosure where the environment can be controlled to suit his needs.

Green iguanas can be highly territorial. While they can adapt to interactions with people, adult males can be quite aggressive. They have a very strong instinct to defend themselves and their territory. They can be wary of strangers and may unexpectedly attack visitors to your home. There have been a considerable number of reports of adults launching unprovoked attacks on humans, even their owners.

It is for these reasons that a pet green iguana should never be allowed to roam freely inside the house. It must be placed in a secure enclosure to prevent unfortunate accidents.
