Tonkinese cats are well-loved for being affectionate, social, and playful pets. They are energetic but are comfortable being lap cats. They are smart and are trainable. They love spending time playing games with other pets or even their humans. They remain playful even as adults.

Putting up scratching posts and cat trees will give your Tonkinese hours of physical and mental motivation. These fun-loving cats quickly endear themselves to family and even to household guests. They like being a part of any family gathering and will be quick to act as ‘door greeter’ and keeping guests entertained with their antics. It is best to have two Tonkinese cats so they can keep each other company. A bored Tonkinese can easily get into lots of mischief.

The breed’s haircoat comes in 12 colors and pattern varieties. The color of the cat’s face, ears, and tail are called “points” and are composed of four base colors –platinum, natural, champagne, and blue. There are 3 coat patterns recognized—pointed, mink, and solid.
