Dogs can get fevers just like we can. Luckily, there are some things we can do for our four legged friends to help make having a fever more comfortable.

First, you’ll need to take your dog’s temperature. A regular, battery powered thermometer will do. Unfortunately, the only accurate way to take your dog’s temperature is to insert the thermometer into his rectum. If your pup does have a fever, make sure you provide him with plenty of water. If your dog doesn’t seem interested in drinking water, you can try offering him beef broth or chicken stock instead.

If you travel with your dog a lot or you simply spend a lot of time in the car on your way to the dog park, it may be a good idea to keep these items in your car.

If you choose not to place your pup in a crate, consider investing in a seatbelt harness. A harness will keep your dog safe, should you be in an accident, and it will also prevent him from jumping out of the car before you have a chance to put him on a leash.

Make sure you give your pup something to do, especially on long car rides. Bring along his favorite toy or purchase something new at the pet store. Treat toys are a great idea, as long as your pup doesn’t get carsick.

If your dog does get carsick, bring ginger, as it helps calm the stomach.

After you have eliminated the fleas on your cat or dog, it is extremely important to thoroughly clean your home to make sure that you get rid of them all.
