Worming Cats

The most common internal parasites affecting cats are roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms. Infestations can be particularly serious in very young kittens and those with compromised immune systems. Cats can get roundworms by infesting eggs that are passed in the feces and contaminate food, water, etc. Eating infected prey can also be a potential route of infection. Kittens can also get infected when suckling the milk of a mother cat with roundworms.

To protect your pet cat, routine worming treatment is necessary not only during certain seasons of the year but throughout the year. Kittens need to be dewormed every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks of age, then every month until they are 6 months of age. After 6 months cats need to be dewormed every 3 months for optimum protection. If you have any questions and/or concerns about deworming your pet, do contact your South West Fort Wayne, IN animal hospital for further instructions.
