What your dog’s nose made of and why is it so hard to determine what it is?

Your dog’s nose seems to be made of some top secret material that is unknown and it seems to enhance its ability to have super keen smelling.

It really is not a secret, your dog’s nose & nostrils are made up of tiny layers of bone inside that is called conchae and it does provide a very odd feeling to the touch.

The conchae is like a little coat of armour for your dog’s nose and nostrils, protecting them to a small degree from injury, as a dogs nose and its sense of smelling is so much a part of your dog’s ability to survive.

This would be one of those “wonders of nature” if you consider how intricate and thin the layers of bone are to produce a stronger shield for one of the main senses. The veterinarian Jensen Beach’s website, located here, can open you up to a vast wealth of dog and cat knowledge.
