Eyelid Lacerations in Cows

If you notice your cow has injured or has even torn his eyelid, call your veterinarian Four Oaks, NC right away. It’s vital that the eyelid be tended to as soon as possible to prevent further eye damage. A cow’s eyelids not only protect the eye, but they also help keep the eye moist and lubricated. If there is a tear, the eye is at risk of becoming dry which could cause further injury or damage to the eye. Once your vet arrives on the scene, he will most likely sew or suture up the eyelid. Never remove or cut any part of the eyelid even if it’s hanging from the eye. Eyelids are well protected and are quite easy to sew together or repair. Suturing or sewing the eyelid back together will help speed healing time. In addition, your vet may prescribe medication to decrease pain and keep your cow from rubbing his eye. Learn more here.
