Cats are nocturnal animals by nature. They can’t help it. Cats, bats, and other such animals are instinctually used to hunting by night, and so this is why, when you’re trying to sleep, your cat thinks it’s playtime.

Cats don’t like being lonely. No one does. So, when the family’s asleep (or trying to be) and your cat is in an empty living room, or wherever it’s allowed, your cat becomes lonely and may start to “cry” out of a desire to have company.

If you desire to, and if it won’t disrupt your schedule the next day, you can get up and play with kitty for a while, then go back to sleep, but then your cat will become used to that, and will come to expect it from you every single night.
