Treating Bloat in Australian Shepherds

If your vet has diagnosed your Australian Shepherd with canine bloat, chances are treatment has already begun to relieve pressure and pain. Bloat is a serious and often fatal condition in canines. Bloat can occur when large amounts of air or fluid forms in the stomach causing the stomach to swell. The swelling often blocks the veins from sending blood to vital organs causing low blood pressure, shock or organ damage. Immediate treatment is needed right away to relieve built up pressure in the dog’s stomach. Your vet may do this by inserting a tube into your Australian Shepherd’s mouth and down to the stomach. If the stomach is twisted, a large hallow needle will be placed in to the stomach to relieve pressure. Surgery may be required as well. If you believe your dog is suffering from bloat, please seek immediate treatment from your veterinarian Willis, TX.
