Tips for Traveling on the Road with Your Dog

If you are planning a trip with your canine buddy, here are some great traveling tips to consider so you can travel in more comfort and safety.

Crate Care

The safest way for your pooch to travel in, is inside a crate. Being contained in a crate, your pet will be unable to disturb you while you’re driving, sneak out an open car door, or get whacked against the car’s windshield in case of a sudden stop. This is just one of the benefits of crate training your pet while still young. When your pooch is comfortable inside the crate, he’ll be more relaxed during the course of your travel. A crate is also easier to clean up when your pet becomes carsick. If you have a Saint Bernard or other large dog breed, you will surely find it hard, if not impossible, to fit your pet in a crate. You can install a barrier behind the car seats. There are various sizes of barriers that you can choose from, and most can be adjusted to fit into your car’s conformation.

Lead

A lead should always be attached to your pet’s crate. If you need to get out of your vehicle in a hurry, you don’t want to waste time looking for the lead through your things.

Anchor Accessories

If your vehicle is equipped with tie-down points or anchors, use it to keep luggage and other things from shifting, tilting or sliding around. You can also use bungee cords in keeping load from moving around.
