Symptoms of Myelopathy Paresis and Paralysis in Cats

A condition known to cause weakness in the limbs or inhibit mobility completely is often referred to as myelopathy paresis and paralysis. Your local vet San Jose, CA will need to examine your cat to determine if this condition is present. Just because your cat is experiencing leg pain or unable to move as well as usual, it does not mean she has myelopathy paresis or paralysis. However, it is always best to check with your vet. Myelopathy is a condition that affects the spinal cord and depending on the severity of the disease it can cause paresis (weakness) or paralysis (loss of mobility). Symptoms of myelopathy include uncoordinated movements, loss of muscle, decreased tension of the muscles, increased tension of the muscles, problems defecating or pooping, and problems urinating. Myelopathy can be inherited or caused by a blood deficiency, tumors, inflammatory and infectious bacterial meningomyelitis, or a traumatic injury.
