Sharing Food Bowls Can Make Your Cats Fat

If you have a multi-cat household, you may find that a dominant cat makes a habit of pushing other cats away from their food and consume their meals. The dominant cat ends up overeating and piling on unwanted pounds, while the other cats don’t have enough to eat. Even if your cats eat from different food bowls in the same room, you may see one cat finishing the food in other bowls most of the time, causing him to eat more than his designated portion.

If this is a consistent problem in your home, it is best to supervise feeding times, or feed your pets in different rooms of the house. If a cat is unable to finish his food, make sure to remove the food immediately to prevent other cats from pigging out.

Just like in most people, it is more difficult to reverse weight gain than it is to avoid it in the first place. Also, many pet owners hardly notice their cat is getting a little more rounded around the edges because they see their cats every day.

Ask your Montgomery, TX vet about your cat’s healthy weight, and cultivate the habit of checking your pet’s weight several times a year to detect any weight gain or loss. Click on this link to know more about your pet’s health.
