Preventing Your Dog from Digging in the Yard

Dogs dig for a variety of reasons. Some dig to escape the yard. Others dig out of boredom or to make a cool place to lie down. The best way to keep your dog from digging is to not leave your dog out in the yard alone for long periods of time. Give him plenty of appropriate toys to play with and spend some time to play with your dog yourself. If your dog tries to escape, you may need to bury chicken wire or cinder blocks at the bottom of the fence. Fill in any holes your dog digs promptly. Flower and vegetable gardens may be irresistible to your dog since the soil is soft and easy to dog. Consider setting up a sandbox for your dog and redirect your dog there whenever he starts to dig.
