Topical flea medications are made to prevent fleas from taking up residence in your dog’s fur in the first place, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be used to eradicate the problem after the fact.

If your dog has fleas, give him a good flea bath. Spend a little time grooming him to get rid of as many of the fleas and eggs as you can. Then, apply the topical medication like you normally would. Hopefully it will do the job!
